Steam Workshop arrives — experimental
Palworld 1.0 shipped with official Steam Workshop support. It is flagged experimental, works on Windows only, and server-side mods require a Windows dedicated server with every client running the same mod list.
The Palworld 1.0 modding scene, mapped: the official Steam Workshop path, classic .pak mods and the UE4SS + PalSchema stack for script and content mods — with a step-by-step installation guide, a curated toolkit and the safety rules that keep your saves alive.
Delete every early-access mod — old .pak files and old UE4SS installs — before updating to Palworld 1.0. Pocketpair's official warning: leftover early-access mods crash the game on startup. The getting started guide opens with the clean-up.
Three ways to mod
Every Palworld 1.0 mod travels one of these three roads. They coexist — most setups mix them.
Official · experimental
The official, one-click path built into Palworld 1.0. Experimental and Windows-only: server mods run just on Windows dedicated servers, and every client must install the same mods.
Open the Workshop →Asset replacement
The classic route: drop a .pak into Pal\Content\Paks (a ~mods subfolder keeps things tidy) to replace models, textures and other assets.
Script & content mods
The power stack: UE4SS loads script and blueprint mods, and PalSchema adds JSON content mods — including fully custom Pals. Manual install only.
Install it step by step →The 1.0 landscape
The 1.0 release reset the modding board. This is where the scene stands today.
Palworld 1.0 shipped with official Steam Workshop support. It is flagged experimental, works on Windows only, and server-side mods require a Windows dedicated server with every client running the same mod list.
Mods built for early access — .pak files and old UE4SS builds — do not survive the jump to 1.0 and crash the game on startup. Remove them before updating, then wait for 1.0-compatible releases.
The 1.0-compatible UE4SS is Okaetsu's experimental build (July 10, 2026), installed manually — mod managers like Vortex pull broken builds. PalSchema layers JSON content mods on top.
Live help and 1.0 compatibility tracking happen in the Palworld Modding Community Discord; dedicated server setup is documented at docs.palworldgame.com.
